Journey back in time aboard the Strathspey Railway

Strathspey Railway (image credit

The fortunes of Speyside as a whisky producing region were once intertwined with the railways. During the late 19th and early 20th century, many of the distilleries within the region relied upon the railways to bring in their supplies of barley and coal. These trains would then be loaded with casks containing the distilleries’ precious cargo.

The Strathspey railway is a restored section of the original Highland Railway Line, stretching 10 miles from Aviemore to Broomhill. Board the train and step back to a time when steam travel once ruled Speyside.
